    Design Advantages and Benefits

    Patented design.
Up to 89% net efficiency, without the addition of an external economizer or recuperator.
Coil is designed to maintain optimum fluid velocities through the heater, based on pumping rate required in system.
Coil life is extended due to proper length-to-diameter, conservative heat flux rate, and series flow.
Coil supports are not exposed to radiant heat, eliminating costly downtime and repairs.
No internal refractory between the coil and the shell.
Exterior shell is covered by 4" of blanket insulation with an aluminum jacket.
Shell, minimum 1/4" thick, is supported by a rigid structural steel skid.
    Low stack temperatures.
    ASME Code construction.
Structural steel supports are welded in accordance with AWS requirements.
Completely packaged burner, burner controls and control panel including temperature indicators, pressure switches, and fluid-flow protection - all pre-piped, wired, and factory- tested for proper, fully-automatic operation.
NEMA 12 Control Panel — with full programming combustion safeguard (ultraviolet detection), fluid temperature and pressure controls, motor starters, relays, operating switches and lights to indicate operating conditions.
Low maintenance — thermal fluid does not cause scale or corrosion.
Conservative design — increases equipment life and reduces downtime.
Factory-trained service personnel — available for start-up, operator training and fast emergency service.
Computer design — We are experts in the heat transfer business and can provide computer design for proper flux, film, and tubewall temperatures, velocity, D t and D p to stay well within the limitations of the thermal fluid and to fit your system requirements.
Wide choice of fuels — natural, mixed, manufactured, LP gas, fuel oils, and combination gas/oil firing.

    5-Year Coil Warranty

First Thermal Heaters provides a 5-year limited warranty on its heater coils for most applications. Since a replacement coil may cost from $10,000 to $100,000 or more depending on heater size and coil material, the First Thermal warranty provides you with significant financial protection that isn't available from most manufacturers.

    High Efficiency

Our heaters operate at the highest net efficiency (81% to 89% depending on operating temperature) that is economically feasible in transferring heat to a high-temperature thermal fluid. While heaters of other designs require the addition of a recuperator to achieve these efficiencies, this model provides these high efficiencies in a single package. However, should even higher efficiencies be required, a recuperator can be added to utilize the heat in exhaust gases to heat combustion air.

    Low Fuel Cost

Because of high fuel costs, operating efficiency is an item of prime importance. The investment in a high efficiency heater and/or recuperator will quickly prove its worth in fuel savings. The payback time is usually one year, or less, at which time the fuel savings go directly into operating profit.

Increasing the net operating efficiency or a heater from 75% to 85% represents an efficiency increase of 10% and fuel savings of 11-3/4%.

The following table illustrates the savings that can be achieved.

    FUEL COST EXAMPLE

    For a 10,000,000 BTU/Hr. Output Heater

Net Efficiency Natural Gas No. 2 Fuel Oil No. 6 Fuel Oil
    75% $246,154 $617,157 $410,303
    85% $217,190 $544,581 $362,652

    Yearly Savings

    $28,964 $72,576 $48,251

    Based on Natural Gas @ $2.00 / 1000 FT3.; No. 2 Oil @ 72¢ / Gal.;
    No. 6 Oil @ 52¢ / Gal.; and 8,400 hours of operation.

    3-Pass Design

Three-pass combustion gas flow for up to 89% net efficiency. 16 standard models with capacities from 1,000,000 through 30,000,000 BTU/Hr. The First Thermal Model High Efficiency Helical Coil Heaters are designed for use with heat transfer fluids in process heating applications requiring temperatures of 350°F to 750°F. The heat transfer surface is arranged in such a way that the flue gases are sufficiently cooled before reaching the last pass. This eliminates the need for refractory between the pipe coil and the heater shell . . . a feature that is a real plus.

Vertical High Efficiency Helical Coil Heater

    Maximum Net Efficiency

This patented design provides the best efficiency that is economically obtainable without the addition of an external Economizer or Recuperator. However, where high fluid temperature results in high stack temperature, external heat recovery can be supplied by First Thermal Heaters.

Stack Temp Fluid Temp Net Efficiency
    °F °F %
    450 400 89
    500 450 88
